A visit to Redoak Beer Cafe

Passion can be palpable, and when passionate people do something with all their heart, it shows. We recently had a chance to visit “Redoak boutique beer cafe,” a bespoke brewery cafe run by a brother and sister duo David & Janet in Sydney who are truly dedicated and committed to not just their love for good Beer but also great food. In the relaxed large café, they have a massive variety of Beers with different styles  and flavors which would suit any kind of Beer lover.

Did you know that a good quality beer or cider can be aged for many years and improves its taste, developing deep, complex aromas. Redoak brews an extensive and ever-expanding range of beer styles from Belgian Chocolate Stout, Organic Pale Ale, Rauch, Bock, Baltic Porter, Special Reserve, Kolsch, Berlinerweiss, Framboise Froment, Belgian Choc-Cherry Stout, Belgian Wit Bier, German Wheat Beer and many more.

They specialize in Beer and Food tasting to compliment the fantastic selection of beer. We were offered tasting paddles of Beer along with a variety of Meat and Seafood dishes. The friendly and equally passionate staff ensured that they explained the flavors of the Beer and made recommendations to ensure we got the best experience.

We drank and ate so much that by the time we were finished, we could barely move from our tables. The overall quality of everything we had at the café was not just exceptional but also thoroughly enjoyable. A perfect way to spend your weekend. Don’t you agree?

 

Here is what we had:
Beers

Organic Pale Ale

This was one of their most popular sellers and had a lovely stone fruits character. It was crisp and perfect for the sunny afternoon in the café. This was also one of our favorite beers.

 

Honey Ale

Strong leatherwood honey aftertaste with leatherwood and musk aroma. This beer left a slight honey flavor in our mouths.

 

Aussie lager

This was a perfectly balanced Australian lager with subtle malt and hop flavors with a medium level of bitterness.

 

Hellraiser

This beer was too strong for our taste.

 

Feldas Weiss

Cloudy wheat German beer with hints of tropical fruit banana and citrus. This had a lovely fruity taste.

 

Pommy bitter

Really balanced and full of flavor with a deep amber color with citrusy hops and tasted delicious.

 

Chateau sour

This was my favorite Beer and tasted like a fruit compote in a glass with a hint of Cherry and intense flavors of Plum and raisins.

We were given a choice of 2 different tasting plates that went incredibly well with the beer.

Seafood Tasting Board

  1. Salmon gravlax with creme fraiche and lemon balm paired with Felda Weiss
  2. Grilled octopus with harissa sauce and chili paired with Aussie lager
  3. Tuna Tartare with shallots and sesame dressing paired with Pommy bitter
  4. Prawn cutlet with lemon Pepper and Aioli paired with Organic pale ale

The grilled Octopus and the Prawn cutlet really stood out on this board, and we were almost tempted to ask for a second helping.

Meat Tasting Board

 

  1. Smoked turkey breast, red currant jelly and cranberries paired with Aussie Lager
  2. Pork belly with slaw, crouton, baby parsley paired with Pommy Bitter
  3. Sliced Gourmet pastrami with Branston pickles paired with Organic Pale Ale
  4. Grilled Chorizo sausage with red capsicum sauce paired with Oktoberfest Lager

The Pork belly and grilled Chorizo were exceptional. The husband who doesn’t eat Chorizo enjoyed it as well.

 

Mains

 

Since Summers have arrived in Sydney, the restaurant had a  new Summer menu and wanted us to try it. We had:

Crisp Tasmanian Salmon was sustainably farmed with tomato and olive concasse, green

beans, grilled asparagus w/ roasted red capsicum sauce. The Salmon was delightfully fresh and well done and was really delicious.

Pumpkin and sage Ravioli served with toasted pine nuts, sun dried tomato and Parmesan and grilled chicken tenderloin. There was a slight sweetness to the dish, and it was literally summer in a bowl.

Dessert

Even though we were bursting at the seams could not say no to the desserts. We had:

Mango and Coconut Pannacotta which had shaved Coconut, Mango Coulis and dried Mango. Paired with Felda Weiss. The fresh Mango blended beautifully with the Coconut Pannacotta making it a perfect ending to a warm Summers day.

Chocolate and Orange Chocolate brownie served warm with Chocolate dipped candied Orange, Chocolate Ice cream shavings, and fresh mint. Paired with Stout. I cannot even explain how gooey and luscious this brownie was. I almost died and went to heaven with the first bite.

We were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food and drinks and really had a great time. Definitely worth a visit.
