Quick and easy Prawns masala

I always have a laugh when someone complains about how difficult it is to make Indian food. Because that cannot be further from the truth. I agree that we have some very elaborate recipes that can make a grown man sweat but on the other hand, some recipes are so easy that even a child can make them.

And I always try to ensure that the food that I make after a long day at work is not complicated, that they are easy and fuss free. What I love is the fact that you can have a standard recipe and change the main ingredient to make a different dish every time.

This “Prawns masala” is one such dish. It takes less than 30 minutes to make. If you are not a Prawns lover, you can use Chicken breast, if you are not a Chicken fan you can use boiled eggs and if you are a vegetarian you can use Paneer or Tofu. Whatever you use, end of the day you will have a delicious dish to taste.

Here is the recipe: (Cooking time 25 minutes, serves 2)

 

250 gms Prawns clean and deveined

1 large Onion finely chopped

1 green chili finely chopped

2 Ripe Tomatoes finely chopped

2 cloves of Garlic finely chopped

Freshly chopped Coriander (and lots of it)

Salt to taste

2 tsp Vegetable oil

1 tsp Red Chilli powder

1 tsp Turmeric powder

1 tsp Coriander powder

1 tsp Mustard seeds

7 – 8 Curry leaves

4 – 5 pieces Kokum (You can use the juice of half a lemon if you don’t have Kokum)

 

Heat oil in a pan and add the Mustard seeds, Garlic & Curry leaves

Add the chopped Onion and cook till the raw smell disappears

Add the green chili & Tomato and cook till mushy

Add the Prawns, Salt, Red Chilli powder, Coriander powder & Tumeric powder and mix well

Add the Kokum and ½ cup water and cook till the prawns are done

Serve hot with lots of freshly chopped Coriander

 

Note: If using Lemon, add it before serving.
